Security and rescue teams rushed to the site, shifting the injured to a nearby hospital. All 270 passengers on board were safely evacuated.
This was the second blast in the same area within 10 hours. Earlier in the day, another device exploded near the track linking Balochistan with the rest of the country. That incident delayed the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express but did not damage the line.
Police officials confirmed the device in Tuesday’s attack was planted on the railway track and detonated remotely as the train passed.
Railway authorities have temporarily suspended service until the damaged portion of the track is repaired and cleared for travel.
The attack highlights once again the challenges of sabotage against national transport infrastructure, as security forces continue efforts to secure vital routes in Balochistan.
