An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Thursday approved bail for Shershah Khan, nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan, in the Jinnah House attack case linked to the May 9, 2023 riots.
Shershah, son of Aleema Khan, was arrested on August 22 and had remained in custody on physical and later judicial remand.

Court Proceedings
- ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill heard the bail plea.
- Defence lawyer Rana Mudassar Umer argued that:
- No evidence or charge-sheet had been presented against his client.
- Detention for an “unlimited period” without trial was unjust.
- Several accused with more serious charges had already been granted bail.
- The court accepted the plea and ordered release on a surety bond of Rs100,000, provided he is not wanted in other cases.
Family & Party Reaction
- The decision comes a day after Shershah’s brother Shahrez Khan, a triathlete, also secured bail in a similar case.
- PTI leaders and family members described the arrests of both brothers as “political victimisation.”
- On social media, lawyers confirmed the bail, calling it a result of “teamwork.”
Wider Context
- Following the May 9 protests triggered by Imran Khan’s arrest, some PTI workers and leaders were rounded up for alleged involvement in attacks on state and military buildings, including the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence.
- The government, however, maintains the actions were lawful, with Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry insisting the arrests could not be dismissed as fabricated.
