LAKKI MARWAT, May 12 — At least nine people, including two policemen, were martyred on Tuesday in a powerful blast at a busy square in the Serai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat. The explosion, which occurred at a key traffic junction between Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan, left 23 others injured, including a woman and a teenage girl. While the exact nature of the blast is still being determined by the Bomb Disposal Squad, authorities are investigating whether it was a suicide mission or a remotely detonated explosive-laden vehicle.

Just a day prior, the Foreign Office summoned the Afghan chargé d’affaires to lodge a strong protest regarding the previous attack in Bannu, which investigators linked to operatives based in Afghanistan. KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has vowed full support for the families of the deceased and directed health authorities to provide the best possible medical treatment to the dozens of injured survivors.
