KARACHI: Mohajir Culture Day was observed across Karachi on Wednesday with rallies, cultural programmes and statements from political leaders highlighting themes of unity, coexistence and respect for diversity.
Public figures and political representatives congratulated the Mohajir community, acknowledging its historical role and contributions to Pakistan.
The main rally of the day was organised by Naujawanan-i-Muhajir. It began in Karimabad and concluded at Mazar-i-Quaid, where participants paid tribute to the founder of the nation. Rally participants carried banners and flags, travelled on cars, motorbikes and vans, and chanted slogans related to cultural identity, democratic rights and inter-ethnic harmony.
Separately, a ceremony was held at the Governor House, attended by poets, writers, politicians and members of civil society. The event included a mushaira focusing on Urdu language and literary traditions associated with the Mohajir community. Fireworks were also held at the venue in the evening.
Speakers at the rally said the day was meant to recognise the sacrifices made during migration and to reaffirm a commitment to a peaceful and inclusive Pakistan. A group of young participants on motorbikes paid homage to the Shuhada-i-Urdu, who were killed in police firing in 1972, before proceeding through areas including Teen Hatti and Jehangir Road.
At Mazar-i-Quaid, participants offered tributes to those who struggled for the creation of Pakistan.
