ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed journalist and policy expert Mosharraf Zaidi as his spokesperson for foreign media, according to an official notification made public on Sunday.

The notification, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, stated that the appointment was made “in supersession” of earlier orders issued in June. “The prime minister is pleased to appoint Mr. Mosharraf Ali Zaidi as Prime Minister’s Spokesperson for Foreign Media, with immediate effect and until further orders,” it read. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Cabinet Division have been instructed to take necessary follow-up actions.

Welcoming the appointment, Tarar wrote, “Welcome on board, brother. A great addition to our team. It’s been great working with you these past few months; looking forward to continuing this teamwork.”

Speaking to Dawn, Zaidi described the new role as “a privilege to serve the Pakistani people — the best people on the planet.” He said he would strive to match the prime minister’s “work ethic, resolve, and intensity” in pursuit of “transformational change” for the country.

Zaidi has been serving as the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Government Performance and Innovation. His professional background spans journalism, policy research, and governance. An alumnus of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), he holds a BSc (Honours) in Economics and a Master of Public Administration in Policy Analysis and Non-Profit Management from Baruch College, City University of New York.

Between 2011 and 2013, Zaidi worked as a policy adviser at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before taking on the role of Campaign Director and CEO at Alif Ailaan, an education reform initiative, from 2013 to 2018.
