PTI Commends Pakistan’s Global Mediation Role

Apr 11, 2026 | International-Affairs

ISLAMABAD (April 11, 2026) — The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally welcomed Pakistan’s role in facilitating the high-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran, stating that the “Islamabad Venue” has successfully projected the country as a responsible global actor. However, the party coupled its praise with a stern demand for the government to align its international posture of peace with its domestic conduct regarding human rights and political victimization.

At a Glance: PTI’s Stance on the Summit

  • Diplomatic Support: PTI hails the facilitation of U.S.-Iran dialogue as a reflection of founder Imran Khan’s “peace over conflict” philosophy.

  • Condemnation of Aggression: The party strongly denounced Israeli strikes in Lebanon, labeling them “war crimes” designed to sabotage the two-week ceasefire.

  • Call for Statesmanship: PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram urged the government to use its leverage to convince the U.S. to “rein in” the Zionist regime.

  • Domestic Crisis: The party demanded immediate medical attention for Imran Khan, citing severe vision loss in one eye and the need for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital.

A Philosophy of Dialogue

In a statement issued by the party’s central media department on Friday, Sheikh Waqas Akram noted that the Islamabad talks have earned Pakistan a positive image on the global stage. He emphasized that resolving regional disputes through diplomacy rather than force has been a long-held tenet of the PTI’s foreign policy outlook. Despite the fragile nature of the truce, the party urged the government to seize this “historic window” to ensure a durable settlement that includes the protection of Lebanese sovereignty.

The “Credibility Gap”

The PTI statement highlighted a sharp contrast between the government’s international mediation and its internal policies. Akram argued that “true credibility begins at home,” criticizing the continued incarceration of the PTI founder and his wife.

The party highlighted several grievances regarding the treatment of Imran Khan:

  • Solitary Confinement: Restrictions on access to books, television, and legal counsel.

  • Health Emergency: Allegations that the former prime minister has suffered significant vision impairment and is being denied access to his personal physicians.

  • Political Victimization: The denial of basic visitation rights and medical care.

National Responsibility vs. State Action

Sheikh Waqas Akram pointed out that Imran Khan had demonstrated statesmanship by postponing the planned Liaquat Bagh public gathering to ensure no political distractions interfered with the sensitive diplomatic engagements in the capital.

In contrast, the PTI leader accused the government of continuing a pattern of “constitutional and legal violations.” The party reiterated its demand for the immediate shifting of the PTI founder to a private medical facility, arguing that the government’s international peace efforts would remain hollow if fundamental rights continued to be suppressed within Pakistan’s own borders.
