Islamabad — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on February 14, 2026, directed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to address the security situation in the federal capital and related matters in an effective and efficient manner during a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting also decided that Naqvi will soon undertake a visit to Sri Lanka, where he will personally convey a special message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The visit follows recent diplomatic exchanges, including Dissanayake’s earlier request for Pakistan to participate in the T20 World Cup clash against India.

The briefing comes amid heightened security concerns in Islamabad following two major suicide attacks in recent months: one on February 6 at an imambargah in Tarlai that killed 36 and injured over 150, and another in November 2025 outside a G-11 court that claimed 12 lives and injured more than 30.

On Thursday, PM Shehbaz and President Asif Ali Zardari held a separate meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr to review the political and security situation, attended by Naqvi, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and other senior officials.

Meanwhile, the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) sit-in outside Parliament House entered its second day on Friday, with leaders vowing to continue until PTI founder Imran Khan is shifted to Shifa International Hospital for urgent eye treatment. Heavy police contingents remain deployed at the site and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House.
