QUETTA: Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) has announced the results of the entry test for its six-month Foundation Programme, under which 53 male and female students from Chagai district have been awarded fully funded scholarships aimed at supporting access to higher education.
According to the company, the selected students will enroll in the Foundation Programme at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Sukkur. The programme is designed to prepare students academically and professionally for undergraduate studies by strengthening their foundational skills.
RDMC stated that upon successful completion of the six-month programme, students who qualify for undergraduate admission at any recognised university in Pakistan will continue to receive full financial support from the company. This support will cover tuition fees and other related educational expenses throughout their degree programmes.
Company representatives said the initiative is part of RDMC’s broader commitment to community development and investment in education in areas surrounding the Reko Diq project. Chagai district, located in Balochistan, has historically faced limited access to quality educational opportunities due to its remote location and lack of resources.
Local community members and education advocates have welcomed the scholarship programme, describing it as a positive step toward addressing long-standing educational disparities in the region. They said the initiative is expected to help talented students from Chagai overcome financial barriers that often prevent them from pursuing higher education.
“This programme provides a pathway for capable students to reach universities across the country, something that has been difficult for many families in this area,” a local education activist said. “It has the potential to create long-term benefits not only for the students themselves but also for the wider community.”

Parents of selected students also expressed optimism, saying the scholarships would ease financial pressures and allow their children to focus on their studies. Several students said the opportunity would help them pursue academic and professional goals that previously seemed out of reach.
The Foundation Programme at IBA Sukkur focuses on academic preparation, critical thinking, and personal development. RDMC officials said the selection process was conducted through an entry test to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.

Education experts note that scholarship initiatives linked to preparatory programmes can improve student success rates at the university level, particularly for students from underdeveloped areas.
Local circles have described RDMC’s move as an important investment in human capital, saying it could contribute to social and economic development in Chagai over the long term. They added that similar initiatives could help bridge educational gaps across Balochistan if expanded.
RDMC has not announced whether the programme will be continued or expanded in future years, but officials indicated that education remains a key focus area of the company’s community engagement efforts.
