Pakistani Passport Slips to 103rd in Global Rankings

KARACHI — October 15, 2025: The Pakistani passport has slipped further in the latest Henley Passport Index, now ranking 103rd globally — tied with Yemen. This drop reflects growing challenges for Pakistanis looking to travel abroad, as visa-free access has been reduced to just 31 countries.

Key Highlights

  • Pakistan falls to 103rd, down from 96th last year
  • Visa-free access now limited to 31 destinations
  • India’s passport also slides to 85th position
  • US drops out of top 10 for the first time; UK hits historic low

According to the Henley Passport Index, Pakistan now sits just above Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan — countries that occupy the bottom of the list. The fall from 96th to 103rd means fewer destinations are open without prior visas, making travel tougher and more expensive for ordinary citizens.

India has also seen a decline, landing at 85th place with visa-free access to 57 destinations. This shows a broader regional shift in travel freedom, as other countries secure new diplomatic agreements.

Why Passport Rankings Decline

For everyday travelers, a lower passport ranking translates into more visa applications, higher costs, and longer waits. Rankings typically drop due to:

  • Fewer bilateral visa agreements or cancelled waivers
  • Strained international relations
  • Global security and immigration policies are tightening
  • Lack of proactive diplomatic efforts to expand travel access

Meanwhile, Singapore has once again topped the global list, offering visa-free entry to 193 destinations. South Korea and Japan follow, while Germany and Italy remain strong contenders in the top five.

The United States has, for the first time, fallen out of the top 10, now tied with Malaysia at 12th place. The UK too has dropped to its lowest-ever rank — eighth. On the other hand, China continues its upward climb, now ranked 64th, thanks to new visa-free pacts across multiple regions.
