DERA MURAD JAMALI: Security forces successfully thwarted a second attempt to attack the Jaffar Express within 24 hours after discovering a bomb planted along the railway track in Dera Murad Jamali on Tuesday. The train, which operates on the vital route connecting Balochistan with other parts of Pakistan, has been repeatedly targeted by militants in recent months, raising serious concerns about passenger safety and railway security.
Local police said residents alerted authorities about suspicious activity near the track, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement. A team of security personnel, including a bomb disposal squad, arrived at the site and discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately 3.5 kilograms. The SSP of Nasirabad, Ghulam Sarwar Bhio, stated that the device was remote-controlled and appeared to be planted specifically to target the Quetta-bound passenger train originating from Peshawar. The IED was safely defused, preventing potential loss of life and disruption of rail services.
This incident follows a similar attack just a day earlier, when armed men opened fire on the Jaffar Express between Mach and Aab-i-Guam in Kachhi district. Security personnel deployed on the train responded promptly, returning fire and forcing the assailants to flee. No casualties were reported in that attack.

The Jaffar Express, which links central and southern Balochistan to major urban centers, has long been a target of militants seeking to disrupt transportation and spread insecurity in the region. Over the past year, multiple attacks along the route—including ambushes, IEDs, and small-arms fire—have endangered passengers and railway staff, prompting authorities to enhance security measures along the track. Security forces have increased patrolling, deployed armed escorts on trains, and coordinated with local law enforcement to monitor suspicious activity near vulnerable stretches of the railway.

Authorities have vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into both recent incidents to identify and apprehend those responsible. They have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior near railway tracks, highlighting the critical role of community cooperation in maintaining public safety.
The foiled attacks underscore the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan and the need for continued vigilance along key transportation corridors. While railway authorities and law enforcement have strengthened security protocols, militants continue to seek opportunities to exploit vulnerabilities, making proactive measures and timely intelligence-sharing crucial in safeguarding passengers and staff.
