LAHORE: Lahore continued to experience hazardous levels of air pollution on Friday, with the citywide Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing critical limits, according to data from air quality monitoring platform IQAir.
The overall AQI in Lahore peaked at 504 at 5pm, placing the city among those with serious pollution levels. PM10 was identified as the primary pollutant, with a concentration of 448.6 micrograms per cubic metre.
Several areas of the city reported AQI readings above 400. The highest was recorded at the CERP Office at 682 at 10pm, followed by Iqbal Town at 605 and Barki Road at 558. Other locations, including Defence and Bedian Road, also registered AQI levels above 400, while areas such as Askari 10, Bedian Road, the Civil Secretariat, and Abdullah Khokhar reported readings between 250 and 309.

In regional comparisons, Delhi recorded an AQI of 343, while Lahore followed with 327.
Health experts warn that exposure to high PM10 levels can cause respiratory strain and eye irritation, particularly affecting children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

Officials from the Punjab Environment Department have identified transport emissions, industrial activity, crop residue burning, and prevailing weather patterns as key factors contributing to the rising particulate matter levels in Lahore.
Authorities have urged residents to limit outdoor activities, use masks, and follow health precautions until air quality improves.
