Dec 25, 2025 | Crime & Law, Terrorism

BANNU, December 24, 2025 – Bannu Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sajjad Khan revealed on Wednesday that police in the district endured 134 terrorist attacks throughout 2025, resulting in the martyrdom of 27 officers and injuries to 79 others. Speaking at a press briefing in his office, the DIG highlighted the force’s determined response, which neutralized dozens of militants while protecting civilians amid rising threats.
The briefing provided a clear picture of the challenges faced by law enforcement in the region, even as operations yielded significant results against terrorist elements.

Key Highlights

  • 134 terrorist attacks targeted police stations, posts, checkpoints, mobiles, and parties in Bannu during 2025
  • 27 police personnel martyred; 79 injured in these incidents
  • Police retaliatory action killed 53 terrorists and injured 163
  • 168 intelligence-based operations led to 65 terrorists eliminated and 105 arrested
  • Joint police-security forces operations in areas like Miryan, Haved, and Domel killed 22 terrorists and arrested four
  • 20 drone attacks injured 19 police personnel, martyred nine civilians, and wounded 33 others
  • Anti-drone system installed on July 18 thwarted over 300 attacks and neutralized four drones
  • Security upgrades include barriers, bunkers, CCTV cameras, and ongoing Safe City Project

Bannu Police Operations Yield Results

DIG Khan emphasized that Bannu police conducted well-organized intelligence-based operations throughout the year. These efforts, often in coordination with security forces, dismantled several terrorist hideouts and brought accountability to 170 militants overall.

Community cooperation played a vital role. Jirgas with local elders and the formation of peace committees helped thwart multiple attacks on police installations. Successful actions in areas such as Kakki, Bharath, and Khojri further demonstrated the effectiveness of these partnerships.
Despite the intensity of threats—including 20 drone strikes early in the period—the installation of an anti-drone system in July marked a turning point, preventing hundreds of potential incidents.

Enhanced Security Measures and Modern Equipment

To meet evolving challenges with limited resources, Bannu police strengthened defenses around installations through physical barriers, double walls, bullet-proof gates, and surveillance systems.
The force also modernized its capabilities, acquiring drones, anti-drone guns, sniper rifles, armored personnel carriers, thermal imaging systems, tactical helmets, and bullet-proof vehicles.
Work on the Safe City Project is underway to provide broader protection for both officers and residents.
In his closing remarks, DIG Sajjad Khan reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of Bannu police to upholding law and order, eliminating terrorism, and safeguarding the lives and property of the people. The sacrifices of the martyred officers underscore the ongoing resolve to secure peace in the district.
