PESHAWAR (April 25, 2026) — At least eight people, including five police officers, were injured on Friday night after unidentified assailants launched two coordinated attacks in the Khar tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. The violence began in the Lowi Sam area when gunmen opened fire on a police mobile transporting personnel to a nearby security post. In a particularly brutal escalation, a Rescue 1122 ambulance was targeted just 20 minutes later in the Rashakai area while rushing to provide emergency medical aid to the wounded officers. The ambulance driver and two civilians were among those caught in the second ambush. Police officials have cordoned off both areas and launched a search operation, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the dual attacks.

Highlights

  • 8 total injured (5 policemen, 1 Rescue 1122 driver, and 2 local residents).
  • Two separate ambushes in Lowi Sam and Rashakai, Khar tehsil, Bajaur district.
  • The ambulance was targeted specifically while responding to the initial police attack.
  • Bajaur has seen a spike in violence, including the bombing of a police post earlier this week.
  •  Fatalities in KP rose to 2,331 in 2025, a significant increase from previous years.

The brazen nature of targeting an ambulance has sparked widespread condemnation, with local lawmakers calling the incident an “unacceptable” crime against humanity. The Lowi Sam area was previously considered relatively peaceful, but this incident marks the third security breach in Bajaur within a single week.

According to the Center for Research and Security Studies, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the primary focus of rising militancy, with fatalities increasing by over 40% year-on-year. This latest ambush highlights the persistent threat to frontline responders and law enforcement agencies in the border regions. Following the attacks, a heavy contingent of police led by senior officials from the Police Lines has been deployed to the locality to prevent further incursions and track down the perpetrators who fled into the surrounding rugged terrain.
