LAHORE (April 27, 2026) — Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced a landmark series of initiatives on Monday aimed at reviving the province’s long-struggling film industry. Highlighting a historic Rs2 billion allocation, the Minister revealed that the government has officially begun work on a world-class “Lahore Film City.” This state-of-the-art hub is designed to house advanced post-production laboratories, allowing local filmmakers to edit and finalize their projects within Pakistan rather than seeking expensive services abroad. Alongside infrastructure development, the government is introducing direct financial support and performance-based bonuses to incentivize high-quality storytelling and international competitiveness.

Highlights

  • Rs2 billion dedicated to the revival of the Punjab film sector.
  • 32 selected filmmakers will receive Rs30 million each to produce new films.
  • Producers will receive a 25% bonus based on their film’s earnings as a performance incentive.
  • “Lahore Film City” will provide international-standard editing and lab facilities.
  • Cinemas across the province will be transitioned to solar energy to reduce operational costs.

Empowering a New Generation of Filmmakers

To ensure the funds translate into high-quality cinema, the government has established a structured disbursement plan:

  • 32 filmmakers have already been chosen following a rigorous scrutiny process.
  • Rs15 million will be released upon script submission.
  • The remaining Rs15 million will be provided once the project is finished, with a strict one-year deadline.

New applications will be invited in June for the upcoming fiscal year, including special funding for five exceptionally talented young directors.
