ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Gilgit-Baltistan’s newly elected Chief Minister, Advocate Amjad Hussain, on Tuesday and assured him of the federal government’s strong commitment to work hand in hand with the regional administration on economic, infrastructure, and social welfare initiatives.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, formally recognised Hussain’s assumption of office after his unopposed election in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly last month.

- 100-Megawatt Solar Energy Project: Given priority as a key clean energy scheme to stabilise the region’s power supply and lessen reliance on costly, weather-dependent transmission lines.
- Knowledge Schools Network: Plans to set up modern educational institutions aimed at broadening access to quality primary and secondary schooling in remote valleys.
- Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre: Establishment of a centralised digital service hub in Gilgit to simplify public dealings, civil documentation, and government procedures for residents.
- Multisectoral Investments: Focused federal funding to promote mountain tourism, improve healthcare access, and develop climate-resilient road networks.
