KARTARPUR, Narowal — August 29, 2025 — The historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, part of the Kartarpur Corridor, is gradually recovering after being inundated by floodwaters from the Ravi River earlier this week. Rescue and relief efforts are now giving way to restoration measures.
Initial Inundation and Rescue Operations (August 27–28, 2025)
- Floodwaters from the Ravi River, swollen by heavy monsoon rains and upstream releases, submerged large parts of the Kartarpur Corridor and the gurdwara complex.
- The ground floor, including the langar hall and residential quarters, was completely underwater.
- The Pakistan Army carried out urgent rescue operations, evacuating more than 100 pilgrims, staff, and locals by boat.
- Officials confirmed the Sri Guru Granth Sahib remained safe, as the sacred scripture was placed on the elevated first floor.

- Water receding: Flood levels inside the shrine have begun to drop.
- Government response: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to drain the remaining water and ensure full restoration of the premises.
- Community initiative: Ramesh Singh Arora, President of the Pakistan Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PGPC), announced that “Kar Seva” (voluntary cleaning and service) will begin on August 30, 2025, once conditions permit. Sikh devotees worldwide are invited to take part.
