PESHAWAR (April 21, 2026) — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution backing the ongoing peace negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad. While the assembly hailed the mediation as a landmark diplomatic achievement for Pakistan, the session was marked by heavy criticism of the deteriorating security situation in the province’s tribal districts.
Key Assembly Decisions
- Unanimously supported the “Islamabad Peace Dialogue” as a constructive move for regional stability.
- The resolution credited the PTI founder’s “partner in peace” philosophy as the guiding orientation for current diplomatic efforts.
- Lawmakers demanded an independent inquiry into the death of a child during a recent raid in Bajaur.
- The chair announced that the assembly will meet tomorrow at the Imran Khan Stadium in Peshawar, marking the first time proceedings will be held in a public space.

Linking Diplomacy to Political Philosophy
The resolution, moved by Sher Ali Afridi, emphasized that the current mediation efforts align with the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan. It noted that despite his incarceration, Khan’s advocacy for dialogue—exemplified by his role in the Doha Process and the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor—continues to resonate. The assembly formally suggested that Khan’s “vision and experience” should be reflected in the ongoing consultative processes to enhance the credibility of the peace dialogue.
Outcry Over Bajaur Incident
The session took a somber turn as members from both the treasury and opposition benches condemned a recent security operation in Khar, Bajaur, which resulted in the death of a young child.
Casualty Reports: Lawmaker Mohammad Nisar of the ANP revealed that 38 civilians have been killed in Bajaur since July 2025, questioning why innocent residents continue to bear the brunt of anti-militant operations.
Demand for Inquiry: MPA Anwar Zeb and others called for an immediate meeting of the house’s security committee, highlighting that threats against peace activists and unexplained drone strikes have become a recurring issue.
Political Debate and Legislative Progress
While PPP’s Ahmad Karim Kundi praised the current leadership for preventing a global conflict through the US-Iran ceasefire, the treasury benches, led by Special Assistant Shafi Jan, criticized the government’s treatment of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. In terms of legislation, the KP Vagrancy (Control and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2026 was introduced and referred to a committee for further review.
The move to hold the next session at a public stadium is seen as an attempt to increase institutional transparency and allow the public to witness the legislative process firsthand.
