Islamabad – October 9, 2025 — In a significant blow to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially declared all PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) members in the National and Provincial Assemblies as independent, following the Supreme Court’s detailed verdict issued on August 25, 2025.
The ECP’s statement confirms that the political affiliation of these members will no longer be recognized. This decision stems from the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench ruling, which effectively nullifies PTI and SIC’s collective standing within legislative bodies across Pakistan.
After years of delays, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that Punjab’s long-overdue local government elections will be held in the last week of December 2025.

As a result, the party position in the National Assembly, as well as in the Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh Assemblies, has been revised. The Election Commission has released updated lists reflecting the new status of all affected members.

This development is expected to shift the balance of power in both federal and provincial legislatures, casting uncertainty over future political alignments and alliances. Political analysts believe this decision could open the door for new coalitions, independents bargaining for influence, and increased instability in upcoming parliamentary sessions.

The move comes amid ongoing legal and political challenges for PTI and may significantly affect its role in parliamentary proceedings in the future. Reactions from party leaders and rival factions are expected in the coming days.
