Islamabad, October 13, 2025 — Former Pakistan captain and star batsman Babar Azam has made history by becoming the first Asian cricketer to score over 3,000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC).
The milestone was achieved on Day 1 of the first Test match against South Africa, where Babar crossed the 3,000-run mark in the ongoing WTC cycle. As of now, he has amassed 3,021 runs in 37 matches at an impressive average of 47.95.
This landmark achievement puts Babar ahead of all Asian batters in the WTC. The closest to him is Indian captain Shubman Gill, who has 2,826 runs in 39 matches.

Globally, Babar Azam ranks eighth among the top scorers in the World Test Championship. The record for the most runs is held by England’s Joe Root, who has scored 6,080 runs in 69 matches.
Following Root, Australia’s Steve Smith is second, Marnus Labuschagne third, and England’s current captain Ben Stokes holds the fourth spot. Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, and Zak Crawley round out the fifth to seventh positions respectively.
