ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday extended warm greetings to Pakistan’s Hindu community on the occasion of Diwali, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding minority rights and promoting interfaith harmony.

Highlights

  • President Zardari, PM Shehbaz reiterate commitment to equality and freedom of religion.
  • PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, Sindh leaders also convey Diwali greetings.
  • Messages underline unity, compassion, and Pakistan’s inclusive vision.

President Zardari said the festival of Diwali symbolised “the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.” He emphasized that Pakistan’s Constitution guarantees complete freedom of religion and equal rights for all citizens, adding that Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah envisioned a nation where minorities live with dignity and opportunity.

He also praised the Hindu community’s contributions in education, commerce, and public service, calling them “a vital part of the national fabric.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on X (formerly Twitter), extended “heartfelt greetings” to the Hindu community in Pakistan and across the world.

“As homes and hearts are illuminated with the light of Diwali, may this festival dispel darkness, foster harmony, and guide us toward peace, compassion, and shared prosperity,” the premier said.

He noted that the spirit of Diwali — symbolizing hope, unity, and victory of good over evil — should inspire collective efforts to overcome challenges like intolerance and inequality.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also greeted the community, describing Diwali as a “festival of lights, hope, and renewal.” In a statement issued by Bilawal House, he said the celebration reminds everyone that “light always triumphs over darkness and truth, peace, and love prevail over hate.”

Bilawal reaffirmed his party’s pledge — in line with the vision of Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto — to build a progressive and inclusive Pakistan where all faiths coexist in harmony.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also shared Diwali greetings, calling the occasion one of joy, peace, and love while urging continued promotion of interfaith solidarity.
