NEW YORK / ISLAMABAD — The international community has reacted with “deep shock and outrage” to the suicide bombing in Islamabad, with world leaders and diplomatic missions expressing unwavering support for Pakistan in its fight against violent extremism.

The United Nations and Global Powers

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the bombing “in the strongest terms,” reiterating that attacks on places of worship are “unacceptable” and calling for immediate accountability.

The United States, via Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker, offered sincere condolences, stating that the people of Pakistan deserve the “ability to practice their faith without fear.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a personal letter of condolence to the Pakistani leadership, describing the act as “barbaric” and offering to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation.

China and Saudi Arabia issued strong statements of solidarity. The Saudi Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its firm rejection of “shedding innocent blood” and “terrorizing civilians.”

Regional and European Solidarity

The UK and European Union expressed heartbreak over the “abhorrent” violence. British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and High Commissioner Jane Marriott noted that the UK stands firmly with Pakistan in this challenging moment.

Iran and Turkiye—close regional allies, condemned the “hideous” attack. The Iranian ambassador emphasized the need for “cooperation and coordination of all countries in the region” to confront the financial backers of such terrorism.

Afghanistan, through its Foreign Ministry, also condemned the violation of the “sanctity of mosques,” despite allegations from Pakistani officials regarding cross-border movements.

A Tense Rejection from India

In a notable diplomatic exchange, India condemned the bombing as “condemnable” but categorically rejected the “baseless” allegations made by Pakistani ministers regarding Indian involvement. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that Pakistan should focus on its “home-grown ills” rather than “deluding itself by blaming others.”
