Gold Prices Surge Past Rs 5.3 Lakh

Feb 24, 2026 | Economy

Gold prices in Pakistan continued their aggressive upward trajectory on Monday, February 23, 2026, as global economic uncertainty and regional tensions drove investors toward “safe-haven” assets.

According to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), the local market witnessed a substantial jump, building on the massive Rs 7,100 gain recorded just this past Saturday.

Today’s Gold & Silver Rates (24K)

Unit Rate (PKR) Daily Increase
Per Tola Rs 536,562 +Rs 3,000
10 Grams Rs 460,015 +Rs 2,572
Per Ounce (Intl) $5,138 +$30
Silver (Per Tola) Rs 9,094 +Rs 146

Why are prices skyrocketing?

The current volatility in the bullion market is being driven by three primary factors:

  1. Trump’s Global Tariffs: On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced a 15% global tariff plan after his previous trade policy was struck down by the Supreme Court. This has created a massive “risk-off” sentiment, causing investors to dump stocks and move capital into gold.
  2. Geopolitical Fears: The looming “clouds of war” in the Middle East and the U.S. naval deployment against Iran (which opposition leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar compared to the 2003 Iraq build-up) are keeping gold demand at historic highs.
  3. Local Currency Pressure: Ahead of the IMF’s third review (starting tomorrow), the Pakistani Rupee remains under pressure, making imported gold more expensive in local terms.

The Wider Economic Impact

The surge in gold is coinciding with a brutal day for the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), which suffered a 5,400-point crash on Monday, as the KSE-100 index fell below the 168,000 mark. While investors are losing money in equities, those holding gold and silver have seen their portfolios grow by nearly Rs 10,000 per tola in just the last 72 hours.
