Mar 24, 2026 | Public Policy

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a week-long spell of rain, wind, and thunderstorms across much of the country from March 24 to March 30, 2026, with occasional gaps. A strong western disturbance is expected to enter southwestern Balochistan tonight and intensify from March 27, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall in several provinces. Karachi, Thatta, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana in Sindh are likely to receive rain on March 25-26 and again on March 28-29. Similar weather is expected in major Punjab cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan, as well as in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. The PMD has warned of possible hailstorms, windstorms, flash floods in local streams, and landslides in hilly areas.

Key Highlights

  • Rain, wind, and thunderstorms predicted across Pakistan from March 24 to March 30 with occasional gaps.
  • Karachi, Lahore, and other major cities in Sindh and Punjab likely to receive rain on March 25-26 and 28-29.
  • Heavy falls and hailstorms expected in Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir.
  • Daytime temperatures likely to drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in upper parts of the country.
  • Flash floods possible in Balochistan and local streams of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; landslides likely in vulnerable hilly areas.

The Met Office has advised farmers to manage their crops according to the changing weather and warned that windstorms and hailstorms may damage weak structures, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. Tourists and travellers have been urged to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. All concerned authorities have been asked to stay vigilant and take preventive measures to avoid any untoward incidents.

This weather system is expected to bring much-needed rain to many drought-affected areas but may also cause temporary disruptions to daily life and transport. Citizens are advised to stay updated through official channels and prepare accordingly for the rainy spell. The government and relevant departments are monitoring the situation closely to ensure public safety and minimise any possible damage. Pakistan’s Met Office has once again provided timely information to help the nation prepare for the changing weather conditions.
