Islamabad – November 26, 2025 – The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Wednesday categorically rejected media reports that claimed a “major disaster” was averted at Islamabad International Airport, describing the incident involving a Saudia flight as a standard and routine go-around manoeuvre.
The clarification came a day after several local outlets reported that Saudia flight SV728 from Jeddah had nearly landed on a closed runway, creating alarm among passengers and the public.

Go-Around Explained
A go-around is a normal safety manoeuvre in which an aircraft discontinues its landing approach and climbs back to a safe altitude for another attempt. Such procedures are performed globally for reasons ranging from air traffic spacing to weather changes or runway availability.“Go-arounds are common, non-emergency actions designed to maintain the highest levels of aviation safety,” the PAA emphasised.
Call for Responsible Reporting
While acknowledging the media’s role in keeping the public informed, the authority urged outlets to refrain from presenting routine aviation procedures in a sensational manner, noting that exaggerated reporting can cause unnecessary anxiety among travellers.
The PAA reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to transparency and the highest international safety standards at all airports under its jurisdiction.
