LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday approved six bills during a session marked by criticism of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department’s performance and calls for expanding the Counter Crime Department’s (CCD) operations to riverine areas.
The session, chaired by Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, began more than two hours late. During the Question Hour, several treasury lawmakers, including Ahsan Raza and Saeed Akbar Nawnai, expressed dissatisfaction with the responses submitted by the C&W Department, terming them “routine replies” that lacked substance.
Punjab Communications Minister Sohaib Bharth defended his department, stating that he personally oversees all ongoing development projects. However, Speaker Khan cautioned that any attempt to provide misleading information in the House would be treated as a serious matter.

Raising concerns over the CCD’s performance, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) legislators Mumtaz Chang and Shazia Abid urged the department to extend its operations to the Katcha areas, where criminal networks remain active. They said that “serious reservations exist regarding the department’s ongoing actions” and stressed that a comprehensive operation was needed to restore public confidence.
