SHIKARPUR — October 7, 2025: At least seven passengers were injured on Tuesday when a powerful blast on a railway track caused four bogies of the Jaffar Express to derail near Sultan Kot in Sindh’s Shikarpur district.

The explosion occurred in the morning and temporarily suspended train services on the route, officials confirmed.

Morning Explosion Near Sultan Kot

Shikarpur Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Abro said the explosion took place at 8:15am, roughly 1 kilometre from Sultan Kot railway station.

The blast ripped through the railway line as the Jaffar Express — bound for Quetta via Jacobabad — was passing through. The force of the explosion led to four bogies derailing, injuring passengers on board.

“Seven people have been injured. Four were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), while three others were taken to Civil Hospital Shikarpur,” Abro told reporters.

The injured were said to have sustained minor to moderate wounds, and no fatalities were reported at the time of filing.

Rescue Operations and Train Suspension

Following the blast, rescue teams, railway staff, police, and security forces rushed to the scene to assist passengers and secure the site.

Sukkur Divisional Transport Officer Mohsin Ali Sial confirmed that passengers were evacuated to nearby stations, allowing railway authorities to begin repair work on the damaged section of track.

Train services on the affected route were temporarily suspended and are expected to resume after clearance and track restoration, officials added.

Government Condemnation and Investigation

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the attack and directed the Sindh police inspector general to submit a detailed report. He also instructed the Larkana commissioner to ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the site, and a bomb disposal squad is collecting evidence to determine the type and intensity of the explosive used.

Sources indicated that the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) — an Indian proxy group — is suspected to be behind the attack, which comes amid a pattern of targeting railway infrastructure in recent months.

Not the First Attack on Jaffar Express

This is not the first time the Jaffar Express has been targeted.

  • In August 2025, a bomb blast near Spezand station in Balochistan’s Mastung district derailed six bogies of the same train.
  • Just three days before that incident, a bomb exploded near the tracks in Sibi shortly after the Quetta-bound train had passed, narrowly avoiding casualties.

The Jaffar Express — a major route connecting Quetta to Peshawar and traversing multiple provinces — has increasingly become a target for terrorist attacks aiming to disrupt national transport infrastructure.
