ISLAMABAD – October 10, 2025 — Mobile internet services have been suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on the instructions of the Ministry of Interior, ahead of a planned march by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) towards the US embassy.
According to an official directive issued on October 9, the ministry approved the suspension of 3G and 4G services in the twin cities from midnight “till further orders.” The letter, addressed to the chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), directed close coordination with local administrations and law enforcement to implement the decision.
The federal government has decided to suspend mobile internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi following the announcement of a protest march by a religious group.

Although the ministry did not specify a reason, the move follows TLP’s announcement of a protest in the capital. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the government supports peaceful demonstrations but noted that TLP had not sought official permission.
The suspension comes after overnight clashes in Punjab, where police raided the group’s headquarters to arrest party chief Saad Rizvi. The operation led to violent confrontations, injuring several people, including policemen.
The internet shutdown is likely to affect businesses, commuters, and media operations across the region.
