Islamabad, Pakistan — Pakistan has emerged as the world’s worst victim of terrorism in 2025, recording 1,139 terrorism-related deaths — a 6 percent increase from the previous year — according to the Global Terrorism Index 2026 released on March 23, 2026.
The Institute for Economics and Peace report placed Pakistan at the top of its ranking for the first time, noting that the country suffered 1,045 terrorist incidents last year. The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), described as Fitna al-Khawarij, was identified as the deadliest group in Pakistan and the third deadliest globally, responsible for 56 percent of all terrorism deaths in the country.
The surge is largely attributed to cross-border terrorism supported from Afghan soil, highlighting the heavy price Pakistan continues to pay while defending its sovereignty and the lives of its citizens.
