Lahore, Pakistan — Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has said that “human error and some mechanical issues” were most likely behind the derailment of the Karachi-bound Tezgam Express near Adam Wahan Railway Station in Lodhran district on March 22, 2026. Seven coaches of the train derailed, injuring 26 passengers, including one critically.

Speaking to a newspaper on March 23, the minister expressed concern over the old condition of Pakistan Railways coaches, many of which are from the 1960 model and have not received proper maintenance for years. He assured that the government is actively refurbishing these coaches, focusing on mechanical and structural improvements rather than cosmetic work alone. The minister also praised the timely joint rescue and relief operation carried out by railway and provincial teams, which prevented any loss of life.
