According to the ISPR, intelligence-based operations were launched in Mohmand, North Waziristan, and Bannu districts following reports of terrorist activity. In Mohmand, troops engaged the militants’ hideout, killing 14 terrorists after an exchange of fire. Four more terrorists were neutralised in North Waziristan’s Datta Khel area, while another was killed during an encounter in Bannu.
“Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists, who were actively involved in attacks against security forces and civilians,” the ISPR said, adding that sanitisation operations were underway to clear the areas.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif lauded the security forces for their successful operations. In his statement, Zardari praised the “courage and professionalism” of the troops, saying their actions demonstrated Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate terrorism.
Shehbaz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue the fight until terrorism is eradicated. “Officers and personnel of the Pakistan Army are tirelessly engaged day and night to foil the nefarious designs of terrorists,” he said.
Pakistan has seen an uptick in militant attacks, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the Fitna al Khwarij (FAK), formerly known as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, ended its ceasefire in 2022. Last month, 50 terrorists were killed during a four-day operation in Balochistan, while six soldiers were martyred in an attack on the Federal Constabulary Headquarters in Bannu.
