TikTok Removes 25 Million Pakistani Videos Over Guideline Violations

ISLAMABAD: TikTok has removed more than 25.4 million videos in Pakistan between April and June 2025 for violating its Community Guidelines, the company said in its Q2 2025 Enforcement Report released on Tuesday.

Highlights

  • 25.4 million videos were deleted in Pakistan during April–June 2025.
  • 99.7% of the content was detected proactively by TikTok systems.
  • 96.2% removed within 24 hours of being posted.
  • Globally, 189.5 million videos were taken down this quarter — about 0.7% of all uploads.
  • Violations include sensitive content, misinformation, AI-edited media, and safety breaches.

According to TikTok, most of the content was identified and removed automatically using its AI-based detection tools, part of a wider global trend where social media platforms are relying less on human moderators and more on automated systems to enforce rules.

Worldwide, TikTok deleted 189.5 million videos in Q2, of which 163.9 million were removed automatically. About 7.4 million videos were later restored after review. The platform also removed 76.9 million fake accounts and 25.9 million accounts suspected of belonging to users under 13.

The report said that 30.6% of the deleted videos contained sensitive or mature themes, 14% breached safety and civility standards, and 6.1% violated privacy and security policies. Around 45% were flagged for misinformation, while nearly 24% included AI-generated or edited content.

TikTok said the report “reflects its commitment to transparency and community safety” and helps the public understand how moderation works on the platform.

In the first quarter of 2025, TikTok had similarly removed about 25 million videos in Pakistan for guideline violations, showing a consistent moderation pattern across both quarters.
