BAJAUR: Awami National Party (ANP) Bajaur spokesman Obaidullah Khan Salarzai was taken into custody on Thursday after an additional sessions judge cancelled his bail before arrest (BBA) in a case involving allegations of disturbing public peace and delivering inflammatory remarks against state institutions.
According to police and party workers, Mr Salarzai was detained from the court premises immediately after the judge rejected his counsel’s request to extend his interim pre-arrest bail. The case was registered against him on Oct 26, 2025, at Khar police station under Sections 339, 341, 504, 505 and 124-A of the Pakistan Penal Code. Following the cancellation order, the court directed police to arrest the ANP leader and shift him to the local prison.

Party sources said the spokesman had been facing criticism from certain quarters over a speech he delivered at a recent gathering, where he was accused of using unlawful and provocative language. His arrest has prompted concern among ANP workers, though the party did not issue a formal statement by the time this report was filed.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, one person was killed and two others injured when unidentified assailants opened fire in Inayat Kallay Bazaar on Thursday. The attack occurred near China Market, where three men sitting outside a shop were targeted with rifle fire.
