BANNU, May 10 — At least 15 police personnel were martyred on Saturday night following a massive suicide attack on the Fateh Khel police post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district. Terrorists executed the assault by ramming an explosives-laden loader rickshaw into the post, followed by heavy gunfire from multiple directions. The blast, which utilized an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 kilograms of explosives, completely leveled the structure and damaged nearby buildings, marking one of the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in recent months.

Bomb disposal squad officials noted that the sheer volume of explosives used—up to 1.5 tons—was intended to ensure the total collapse of the fortified position.
The federal and provincial leadership have issued a strong condemnation of the incident. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s resolve to provide all necessary resources to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to eradicate terrorism. Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that Pakistan would target not only the active terrorists but also their facilitators and sponsors, linking the resurgence of such violence to regional geopolitical shifts and cross-border safe havens.
