PSL 11 Trade Window Opens: Franchises Jockey for Final Squad Balances

Mar 13, 2026 | Sports

The trade window for the 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) has officially opened today, Friday, March 13, 2026. This crucial 5-day period allows franchises to fine-tune their rosters, exchange players, or sell contracts to stay within their salary caps before the league kicks off on March 26.

The Rules of Engagement

Under the PCB’s updated 2026 guidelines, the trade window follows a strict

financial framework:

  • Cash Trades: A franchise can sell a player to another for a fixed amount, which must be deducted from the buying team’s remaining salary cap.
  • Player-for-Player Swaps: Two teams can exchange players directly. If there is a disparity in the players’ values (e.g., a Platinum player for a Diamond player), the difference can be settled with cash from the salary budget.
  • PCB Oversight: No trade is considered legally binding until it receives final approval from the PCB Domestic Cricket Operations department.

Multan Sultans’ Competitive Advantage

Following the “exceptional circumstances” of their recent acquisition, the Multan Sultans have been granted significant concessions with the unanimous consent of the other seven franchises:

  • Budget Boost: An additional Rs 1.2 crore (12 million PKR) added to their salary cap.
  • Squad Size: They are permitted to carry a total of 22 players, while other teams are capped at 20.
  • Match Day Rule: On game days, they must still select their 11-man team from a standard 20-man match day squad, ensuring a level playing field during the actual matches.

Potential Trade Scenarios to Watch

With the inclusion of the two new teams—Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindi Pindiz—several established franchises are looking to offload surplus talent to balance their books.

  • Sialkot Stallionz Ownership Shift: Following the exit of owner Kamil Khan and the OZ Group’s financial struggles, there is speculation that some of their high-profile international signings, including Steve Smith or Tim Paine, could be subject to interest from other franchises if the new management seeks to reduce the wage bill.
  • Faisalabad’s Homecoming: Now that Faisalabad (Iqbal Stadium) is hosting 7 matches, there is a strong rumor that local favorites who were picked by other teams (such as members of the Faisalabad Wolves core) might be traded back to teams playing heavily in the Punjab region.

PSL 11 Tournament Facts

  • Venues: 6 (Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar)

“The trade window is the final opportunity for teams to fix any imbalances. With two new teams, the strategy has changed—it’s no longer just about stars, but about squad depth for a 44-match season.” — PCB Official Spokesperson.
