ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a comprehensive weather advisory on Monday, warning of widespread rainfall, intense windstorms, and thunderstorms across most central and northern regions of the country through Wednesday.
The entry of heavy monsoon systems has prompted immediate urban flooding warnings for several major metropolitan hubs across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), alongside severe landslide alerts for the country’s northern mountainous terrain.
Convergence of Multi-Directional Weather Systems
According to the met office, the impending storm cycle is being driven by a powerful atmospheric convergence. Moist air currents tracking from the Arabian Sea are actively penetrating the upper regions of Pakistan. Concurrently, a secondary wave of moist currents originating from the Bay of Bengal is slated to make landfall across northeastern borders.

These twin tropical systems will merge with an incoming westerly wave, creating highly volatile weather conditions characterized by sudden cloudbursts, lightning strikes, and destructive wind velocities.
Regional Timeline and Expected Impact Zones
The PMD has mapped out varying timelines for the severe weather system, expecting the primary impact to peak between Tuesday and Wednesday.
| Region | Expected Timeline | Key Impact Areas & Districts | Primary Hazards |

Safety Warning for Citizens and Travelers
The PMD explicitly warned that severe windstorms and lightning could compromise fragile infrastructure, urging the public to secure solar panels, electrical poles, and commercial billboards. Travelers and tourists are strongly advised to cancel non-essential movement to northern tourist spots, while farmers should modify harvesting schedules.
Disaster Management Authorities Mobilize
In response to the PMD’s assessment, the KP Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued emergency directives to all regional and district administrators.
Local authorities have been ordered to pre-deploy emergency rescue machinery, clear major highway bottlenecks, and secure vulnerable residential communities. Municipal teams in urban zones like Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala are on high alert to handle heavy drainage operations, while tourists currently in monsoon belts are being systematically redirected to secure accommodations away from active water bodies and low-lying valleys.
