ISLAMABAD, Sept 12 — Seven senators belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have quit their Senate committees after party chairman directed them to withdraw.
The resignations were submitted on September 11, a day after Khan’s sister Aleema Khan conveyed his message from jail. While PTI leaders frame the step as “discipline and resistance,” observers say the move risks further sidelining the party from parliamentary processes at a time when legislative work requires cross-party input.

Azam Swati, one of the senators, said he could not serve on committees when “democracy was under attack.” He also blamed the judiciary for decisions that, according to him, weakened PTI’s electoral position. Critics note, however, that the Supreme Court verdict he referenced was part of due legal process.
Government officials have so far avoided direct confrontation but maintain that PTI should engage in parliament instead of boycotting. By walking out of committees, PTI lawmakers lose a key platform to raise people’s issues and influence policymaking.
